September’s Themes

Here are the four themes for September. You can read any type (e.g., Picture Book, Middle Grade, Graphic Novel, etc.) of kidlit book you want for each theme. In honor of International Dot Day, this month’s prize will be a copy of The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds (@peterhreynolds). If you are unfamiliar with International Dot Day, check out this post, or go to The Dot Club website.

  1. September is the beginning of the school year. Read a book about school.
  2. September 19 is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Read a book about Pirates.
  3. September 8 is International Literacy Day. Read a book originally published in a different country than where you live.
  4. September 6 is Fight Procrastination day. Read a book that has been in your to-read list for a long time.

And here are your September bonus themes:

  1. September 25 is National Comic Book Day. Read a comic book or graphic novel.
  2. September has National Grandparent’s Day. Read a book with Grandparent’s in it.
  3. One of September’s birth flowers is the Forget-Me-Not. Re-Read a book you haven’t read in a while.
  4. In many countries, September is known as Harvest Month. Read a book that takes place on a farm.

Don’t forget to come back and post your books here in the comments. Happy reading!

    Adam,
I love your bookdare bookshare! My book I am sharing on the book dare is in the theme of school! It’s called This School Year Will Be the Best by Kay Winters! Great way to connect to hopes, dreams and goals for the new year! I also read Pete the Cat Rockin in My School Shoes! Of course the kids loved it!

I read Ungifted by Gordon Korman as my school book. I enjoyed this middle grades novel about a crazy impulsive kid that ends up in a gifted program. Like other Korman characters Donavon can be a mess but he is still a good guy and makes this a fun read.

I read “Bunny School” by Rick Walton. This is great read for little ones curious about what a day at pre-school is like. The bunnies look a bit catlike, which turned me off a bit, but it is cute. Lots of details.

Charlie Goes to School by Red Drummond. Love that Charlie has his own book!

I love Melanie Watt, but am not a fan of squirrels, so I have been putting off her Scaredy Squirrel series. I finally check out Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach at the library and read it.

I read Fortunately the Milk by Neil Gaiman. There are pirates. And I even read it on Talk Like a Pirate Day – aloud!

I only did all right this month.
    1. School – Mermin no. 1 Out of Water
    2. Pirate – pirates love underpants (not as good as Aliens Love Underpants)
    3. Other country – A Mammoth in the Fridge
    4. TBR – Every Soul a Star (great on audio)

    Bonus
    1. Blufton
    4. How many seeds in a pumpkin? I read a whole bunch of other farm books one day at the library that I don’t remember (or weren’t memorable).
