The Prodigal Son Returns

A lot has happened since my last blog entry. I must apologize for taking a mini sabbatical, but life and such does sometimes get in the way. In 1981 Styx  said “I’ve got too much time on my hands”. They obviously didn’t have 2 small children starting their school year at the time. Not to mention hockey practices, book events, anniversaries, birthdays, and various and sundry other time stealing things.

I assume that you were all worried about me. Wondering where I was, what I was doing, etc. etc. Well, perhaps just those of you who don’t follow me on the Facebook or the Twitter. This weeks post is a  quick recap of the last three weeks in Adamland.

In the run-up to book launch day the family and I took a trip to Roatan, Honduras. Here’s some quick photos:

We stayed at an awesome resort:

There were lots of these.

I spent some time wandering around the island:

Monkeys like the beach right? Here monkey, monkey. I have a banana.

The trap is set. We have a tree. Where are the monkeys?

I even did a little scuba diving:

Where could those monkeys be?

Finally, we found some monkeys:

MONKEY! So cute. He couldn't possibly be naughty, could he?

So I read them my book:

They seemed quite impressed with the book. Or maybe it was my reading.

Shortly after our return from vacation was book release day. It is really amazing to see something, that you poured so much time and energy into, up on a shelf where folks can see it, read it, and buy it. I owe my writing buddy, and all around awesome friend, Ame Dyckman (follow Ame on twitter, you won’t regret it. I promise.) a HUGE thank you for helping organizing my Indie bookseller hop for release day. And for navigating. Ame is awesome. So are her books. I can wait for Tea Party Rules to come out 10/03/13 so I can repay her kindness with a surprise of my own. Be afraid Ame. Be very afraid.

When I have time, I have been doing interviews, which you can find linked to here. They are a ton of fun. I’ve also done a few signings. The first was at Booktender’s in Doylestown. For this, I picked up a case of bananas and made traps for all the kids. Here’s some pics:

Once the traps were made we sent the kids out to catch some monkeys.

Then, I went to NYC for Dot day. You remember that from this post, right? Why was I in NYC? I did an event with Peter McCarty, Floyd Cooper, and the academy award nominee Quvenzhane Wallis at Books of Wonder. It was such an awesome event, and BOW is an unbelievable store. I could spend days in there. The staff was super friendly and uber knowledgeable. I’m still smiling a day later. If you are anywhere near NY and want to have a good time, stop in. You won’t regret it. Here’s some shots from the Books of Wonder event:

This was the awesome panel for my event: Peter McCarty, Floyd Cooper, and the amazing Quvenzhane Wallis.

Me talking about how awesome the endpapers can be.

Well, I think that about catches us up. What’s next? Well, I’ll get back to writing things that will embarrass my kids. But for now, I think I’ll let them have one more week to feel safe. Cheers.
