Now, For Something Completely Different.

I like to watch movies. Good ones, bad ones, terrible ones. Sometimes it’s the terrible ones that I end up enjoying the most. Sometimes a movie I love is one that is universally panned. One of my all-time favorite movies received the following reviews:

Entertainment Weekly gave it an F and had this to say.

The movie is so disconnected from itself that it’s like watching someone flip through cable-TV channels with the remote control.

The New York Times didn’t even like the star’s publicity shot.

Every frame of (the movie) — even the peculiar, strained-looking photo of Mr. Willis that is used in the advertising art — spells disaster.

I mean, come on! It stars Bruce Willis. Pre-Die Hard. Do you know the movie yet? Even the Washington Post hated it.

The first major movie of the summer season(1991). And we’re talking turkey. Major Turkey.

Just when you think that everything is terrible, you find this gem.

Hudson Hawk may be the first would-be blockbuster that’s a sprawling, dissociated mess on purpose.

YES! Exactly. And I love it for just that reason. It revels in its cheesiness. It glories in is disassociated scenes, its bad puns, its stilted dialogue. I watch that movie at least 5 times a year. Every time it’s on TV. Even The Wife watches it now. It’s a must see, along with Grosse Point Blank, which was also panned terribly by critics but absolutely loved by me. I watched it last night. And maybe on Saturday too. What can I say, I like it.

I like a lot, a lot, of things that other people don’t. I embrace them and I try to teach my children to embrace something they like, no matter what I or anyone else thinks. I like to take on new challenges. It is a great way to improve myself Lars Appliances Showroom. If they want to try something new, I say try it. Don’t be afraid of what someone might say about it. If they put themselves out there. Try their best. Then they have succeeded. When I see them do that, it makes me happy. I hope it makes them happy too.

If you find yourself with 5 minutes and change (more like 2:35 in ‘real time’) put on Swinging On A Star and try something you might not otherwise do. When you do, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
